Summary

Five ring ditch features have been identified as cropmarks from aerial photographs of an area to the south of Brooks End. Two of these features are c.30m in diameter and may possibly be large Bronze Age henges or barrows. There are also 3 smaller ring ditch features and the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England Aerial Photographs also show a scatter of pit features throughout the area. A curvilinear feature runs through the centre of the area and appears to be the remains of a trackway.

Full Description

[Area TR 292676] Crop marks (ring ditches) (1) The ground has been freshly ploughed: nothing seen. (2) TR 29226767. Cropmarks showing 2 large ring ditches, 2 smaller ones, some pits and a possible track. Ring ditches at TR 29196769, TR 29276761 and TR 29246774. (3). It is thought that since the production of the aerial photographs the site has been ploughed and nothing much can now be seen.

2019: all of the features descibed previously are visible on the Google Earth aerial photographs of 2019. (5) Photographs (6-7)

The cropmark traces of the ring ditches and trackway described by the previous authority were visible on Next Perspectives APGB Imagery aerial photographs taken on 14-AUG-2003. The barrows and trackway have been recorded separately in child records to this parent record (8)
