Full Description

Military camp constructed for members of the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC) serving at Richborough Port, (MWX43487), a major WWI port serving allied troops on the Western Front. The name of the corps was changed to Queen Mary Army Auxiliary Corps (QMAAC) in 1918 and this site is generally known as a QMAAC camp. As with the other camps at Richborough Port, this camp was probably also composed of wooden huts - see Related Monuments.

After WWI the camp was decommissioned and its buildings appear to have been removed; the site was empty of buildings and grassed-over on RAF vertical aerial photographs of the site taken in the early 1940s [2]. These photographs show a network of faint linear marks in the grass which are probably derived from buildings associated with the camp [2].
