Early nineteenth century estate atlas giving particulars and containing maps of the Earl of Aylesford's Kentish estates and accompanying estate reports, supplemented with later information. Early nineteenth century surveys of the mid-Kent estate of the Earl of Aylesford and resulting maps form the basis of a detailed estate atlas, with the earliest maps dated 1804. Accompanying reports are dated 1805, with later reports dated 1825. Information is given about leased areas of land of individual tenants, specifying land usage, and rents. Adjacent landowners, and exchanged land are often identified. Details of individual farms, buildings, areas and values of named, and numbered parcels of land are given. Contemporary use, including activities such as quarrying, and crops grown are stated. Names of fields or woods often reveal former industrial use, such as brickfields, or quarries, and nurseries. Other features depicted include footpaths, named lanes, roadways, and wharves. Later developments are shown as additions to the maps, including proposed railways.
